YOUR SKIN'S POST-SUMMER MICROBIOME

After sun, heat, sweat and SPF, balance matters more than aggressive correction. The skin is not an empty surface. It supports a varied community of microorganisms that forms part of its natural ecosystem. Summer changes the conditions around that community: more heat, perspiration, sunscreen, travel and repeated cleansing. By late August, the result may be skin that feels oily in one area, tight in another and less predictable overall.

“Balance begins with a measured cleanse.”

Why summer leaves a mark

Sweat, sebum and repeated layers of SPF can collect alongside daily impurities. Air conditioning and frequent washing may pull comfort in the opposite direction. This does not mean the skin is dirty or needs to be sterilised. It means the surface has experienced several competing pressures and benefits from a measured return to consistency.

Clean does not mean stripped

A cleanser should remove what does not belong without turning the face into a blank canvas. Use Charcoal Face Wash with lukewarm water and massage it over the skin without scrubbing. Rinse thoroughly and notice the finish: clean and comfortable is the objective. Tightness is not proof that cleansing has worked harder.

Support the barrier

After cleansing, add hydration and moisturiser according to how the skin feels. Avoid introducing several strong exfoliants at once. A stable barrier helps the skin maintain water and tolerate the environment more effectively. The post-summer reset is therefore less about attacking imperfections and more about restoring conditions in which skin can behave normally.

‘‘For one week, keep the routine deliberately simple: cleanse, hydrate, moisturise and protect. ”

CLEANSE WITHOUT STRIPPING

For one week, keep the routine deliberately simple: cleanse, hydrate, moisturise and protect. Use Daily Face Protect SPF50 every morning; late summer still brings meaningful UV exposure. Observe before adding. If the skin becomes calmer, smoother and more comfortable, consistency has provided more useful information than a sudden programme of correction.

1. Remove the day, not the skin

Massage Charcoal Face Wash over damp skin with lukewarm water, paying attention to areas where sunscreen and oil collect. Rinse thoroughly, but resist repeating the cleanse simply to create a tighter finish.

2. Reduce unnecessary disturbance

Pause strong exfoliation when the face already feels unpredictable. A few days of measured cleansing and familiar hydration give the barrier time to recover and make the skin easier to read.

3. Restore water and comfort

Apply Recovery Face Serum after cleansing, followed by a moisturiser suited to the skin's present condition. The aim is a comfortable surface that no longer swings between excess shine and tightness.

4. Keep protection consistent

Continue Daily Face Protect SPF50 every morning, including cloudy late-summer days. UV protection remains part of the reset because it limits additional environmental pressure while the routine returns to balance.

RESTORE THE CONDITIONS FOR BALANCE

Microbiome language can make skincare sound more complicated than it needs to be. The practical principle is straightforward: do not over-cleanse, do not chase squeaky skin and do not confuse intensity with efficacy. A good routine works with the skin's protective systems. It removes the day, restores comfort and then gets out of the way.

Respect the ecosystem

The microbiome is not a trend to be chased with an increasingly complicated shelf. It is a reminder that skin functions as an ecosystem. Respect begins with sensible cleansing, a supported barrier and enough restraint to let the skin's own protective processes do their work.
